Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This little Two-Finned Bluna is a happy-go-lucky type of hatchling, who was frozen at his own request because he didn't want to grow up. He spends his days playing with Algaepaw, a fellow frozen hatchling, also waterbound because he is a DeepSea. The two are inseparable, and both are productive members of their cave. Algaepaw, the shyer of the two, helps hunt for fish and other small creatures for the hatchlings to eat, and Orcapaw helps teach the littlest hatchlings how to swim.
