Swallowtail Dragons are graceful and quick flyers, much like their namesake bird. They are capable of precise aerial acrobatics, and can reach very high altitudes. Because of this, humans observing these dragons are often astonished at how large they are when confronted up close. A Swallowtail’s diet consists of insects and small mammals plentiful in temperate forests. These dragons are also made remarkable by their paper-thin wing membranes, which allow light to pass through, creating an astonishing effect on starry nights.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Itamia is the oldest child of Icrin and Aciarix, and resents them for having driven her little sister away. As far as she knows, Zepharica died in one of the many battles between Nworset and the kingdom of Southpoint to the south. Zepharicxa's body was never found, so there is still a chance she survived somehow, but since her disappearance, Itamia has hardly spoken to her parents. She works at the public school and teaches sports and physical fitness in Nworset. Her favourite age group is the just-fledged, because she loves teaching the wyrmlings how to fly. On beautiful clear winter days, she has been known to stare at something small, bright, and metaphysical that she usually keeps hidden. When asked about this she says that she is "daydreaming about an impossible quest." She refuses to explain further, but rumour has it the reason the quest is 'impossible' is Thyras. However, nobody wants to believe that Itamia ever has or had a connection with the infamous necromancer.
