Green Dragons are also sometimes called “earth” dragons. They usually live deep within caves, and have power over the earth. They are capable of launching boulders at high speeds, and can cause earthquakes by slamming down onto the ground.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Selwyn is part of his clan's defense. He seldom goes out of his territory, more content to stay at home and protect vulnerable hatchlings than to travel the world. The skin at the end of his tail hardens to the point that it feels almost like stone. Even though Selwyn's boulders are as powerful as any Green dragon, his most favorite attack is to use his tail to wrap around a large tree and uproot it, then sweep away quite a few enemies in one quick strike. Other Greens rarely use this technique since rough tree bark can easily scrape their tails. Because of that infamous attack, his companions give him the nick name 'Selwyn', which means 'of the woods'.

The nickname 'Selwyn' is called so much that eventually everyone, even Selwyn himself, forgets his old name; and when his old name ceases to exist, his old life stops to matter. What did he do before he came to the Dark Sun, Selwyn doesn't care. Now he is just happy to be Peregrine Selwyn, the defender that all clan hatchlings love.
