Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

For the first part of her life, Cynarow was a freelancer, wandering to wherever she was needed to guard or protect others. She was a very quiet and almost shy dragon, except when it came to defending others, and she never stayed in one place for long. After she met the dinosaur Ibt, however, she settled down somewhat to look after him with the air of an exasperated but loving older sister. It was during this time that she met her future mate Scholear, a silver dragon, on one of his frequent trips down from his mountain home to hunt; the two dragons bonded instantly and Cynarow accompanied him when he returned to his remote mountain cave, taking Ibt with her. Since she now lives in such a high isolated area, Cynarow no longer takes guarding jobs; but she and Scholear do sometimes adopt orphaned dragons that they hear of and raise them in their mountainside home.
