Dark green dragons, once they mature, appear to become an entirely different species. However, this isn’t true. Rather, they burrow underground and get nutrients from their vines. These vines are sometimes referred to as Dragon Grass. These dragons are very violent, and will use their vines to capture, kill, and eat anything that moves, as well as nearby plants. Luckily, their range is limited and they cannot use magic. Dark green dragons tend to be easy to spot since they usually kill all plants around them and thus are usually surrounded by a large clearing.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Like many vine dragons Jievaras attempts to kill and eat virtually anything he can ensnare in his vines. He cares little for other creatures, even members of his own species. The only human to escape his grasp is a sole human female who is good friends with the family. On his first, and only, attempt to devour her, she smacked him across the nose and yelled at him, shouting that he was a 'bad boy'.  After this he used to hide when she came near, but they soon made friends when she offered him some marshmallows, which he has become fond of and looks forward to every time he encounters her.

Jievaras also has affection for Kyss, whom he has often heard singing and glimpsed dancing through the trees. But between his slow movements and being hindered by his numerous vines, he has been unable to actually meet her and often loses her in the forest. However, he lives in hope that one day he can speak to her and confess his feelings.
