Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Piggyguard earned his name due to his odd obsession with pigs. He has spent his life guarding a group of wild pigs usually found a short distance from his owner's cave. It is unknown how he convinced the pigs to take him in as one of their own, but he has managed it, serving to protect them against the hungrier dragons of his owner's cave. In fact, he has spent so much time with the pigs, that he often makes oinking sounds in place of dragons' roars and growls. He is often ridiculed by the other dragons, so Piggyguard is often left to socialize with the pigs. This doesn't bother him, though, because he loves his piggy friends. Piggyguard's greatest, ultimate dream is to become the leader of a work-in-progress Pig-Dragon Alliance, so that he doesn't have to fight and harm others to ensure his friends' safety.
