Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

One of Mystic's first memories was of the nursery dragons' trying to care for another dragon. She was very sick and weak and the adult dragons feared she wouldn't make it. Mystic felt bad for the young dragon as the other hatchlings avoided her. Mystic decided to sleep next to her and help keep her warm. As they grew, she helped her learn how to hunt and played with her. They became best friends and were both surprised when they found out they were sisters which only made their bond stronger.
