Nebula Dragons are nocturnal creatures. With the best eyesight to be found, they are often seen staring into space. Each dragon tends to observe a particular nebula and will eventually change their colors and patterns to match it. As the nebula changes over time, the dragon changes with it. The more intricate the design of the nebula, the better chance an individual has of attracting a mate. It is said that the markings on no two Nebula Dragons will be exactly the same.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Wingless hatched with a rare birth defect: he had no wings, only arm-like stubs. He could only half-hobble, half-crawl around, often falling over before he learned to use his tail to balance himself. During his early hatchlinghood it didn't bother him too much, but once the other hatchlings started learning to fly, he always had to remain behind, alone.

Shortly before maturation, a Sinomorph found him. He picked up Wingless and carried him to the den of a powerful White Dragon, who conjured up a completely new set of wings and fused them with Wingless' wing-stumps. At first these wings were dull and black, as they were made from pure magic and not organic matter. But the more he got used to his new wings, the more nebula patterns started to appear.

Some dragons believe his magic wings can predict the future, heal wounds, or create gold from lead, but Wingless knows the truth is much better than any of that: they allow him to fly.
