Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Narex is an alternate black dragon who specializes in powerful magic. He is very antisocial and dislikes being in the company of any other dragons, especially hatchlings. He lives in a small cave above the main one and will chase out any hatchlings who wander in. Narex may even use his magic on some of them, but hasn't killed anyone.

Most dragons don't like him very much, as he rarely has anything nice to say. He is notoriously greedy, and won't hesitate to steal something that he wants. He isn't all bad though, for he will sometimes heal badly injured dragons. He does make sure that they don't remember him with magic, as he is convinced this will ruin his reputation. Narex does show a grudging respect to those with a higher status than him, but is by no means kind. However, he might make a potion for someone if the reward is good enough.
