Script Dragons are named for the markings along their wings and sides that look almost like calligraphy. The patterns correspond to no known language, and are slightly different on every dragon. These dragons only develop the characteristic markings when they reach maturity, and they are fairly capable with magic once the patterns appear.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Beckett considers herself a seeker of reluctant information. To her, scholar sounds too much like academia. She is intrigued by parts of history that have been forgotten, and even if the history could prove difficult to locate, she will often leave to explore and search for answers. It often takes an incredibly long time to return from her missions and she does not return until she has pieced together at least some answers. Her persistence has led to several dragons' heritage being traced along forgotten bloodlines, and to discovering answers to many historical mysteries.
