Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s very festively colored.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

A small, perky youngster with a "not particularly notable" family tree, this female compensates for her lack of an interesting ancestry with an interesting skill: solstice calculating! Possessing an uncanny ability to tell just how the world is positioned at any given time, she spurns attempts to mandate the solstice to a set date, shaking her little head and going "nope, that's not it, give it another day and three hours--"

While this ability is more of a conversation starter than a really useful function, she's quite proud of it all the same, and will happily give precise dates and times of these and other interesting days when asked.
