Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As a hatchling, young and naive Brennia confessed her feelings for a Copper that made her heart do aerobatics in her chest. However, that Copper was another female. Brennia was labeled as a freak and an outsider, ostracized by her own clanmates and abandoned by her only friends all because she loved another female. She couldn't understand why she was being treated this way; she hadn't done anything wrong. She tried to stand up for herself but the others' jeers and insults broke her down. Some days she would spend hours unmoving in her nest with tears rolling down her emerald cheeks, wishing more than anything that she would simply fade away into nothing.

But Pamlile, the Copper who had stolen Brennia's heart, finally gained the courage to fight for the Summer's sake, beating off the others' words and showing Brennia that she didn't have to take such abuse over nothing. Despite their clanmates' disapproval and disgust, the two became mates and now fight for others like them.
