Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Gekkouka, while not part of the clan guard like the majority of the other Black Dragons of the Sylvain family, is a powerful mage in his own right. He and a select few others are part of an elite entourage that accompanies elder members of the clan on social outings, anything from seasonal festivals to negotiation meetings with rival factions. His personal specialty is detecting and negating deception-based spells and illusions, to ensure that his family is not compromised in their inter-family interactions. While Gekkou does sometimes miss being able to work with his siblings as part of a team, he feels a certain amount of fulfillment in having been trained to act on his own. He takes his duties rather seriously and is respected by the older dragons for it, as he is among the youngest of his Black Dragon kin.
