Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Cerb'rus, the self-proclaimed Shadowthief, is rarely seen around the Enigma Mountains, preferring to keep to the darkness. He was frozen by an enraged Magi before his wings grew in, so had to adapt to land travel—this, fortunately for him, he is an adept at.

As implied by his given alias, he steals from other dragons, merely for the pleasure of it. And being a hatchling, after all, if he is caught he needs only to plead adorably and most dragons will let him go.
