Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Isodor Autumn is not the child of Kyro and Ashara Autumn, but the child of Ashara's sister Gwinni Greenleaf, a seasonal dragon that was born in the summer. However, since the characters of mother and son where as different as summer and fall, his mother agreed with her son growing up with his aunt and uncle. Isodor visits his mother often, but their characters often cause uncomfortable silences: where Gwinni loves the sun, sitting in it and talking about warmth and green valleys, Isodor rather spends his time looking at the falling leaves, breathing in the smell of wet leaves and feeling the rain touch his skin, just like is aunt and uncle. But although the complicated relation he holds with his mother, the young Isodor is content with his life, especially during the fall, when he feels right at home in the forests.
