Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon... except for the tangle of dangerous-looking vines surrounding it...

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Velvet was found near death near StarlitHatchery by Fear Duskwolf. He took the hatchling back and it took the combined efforts of both Arco and Warrior to save it. However, the only way they could save it was by freezing it as soon as it hatched, which they did. Velvet was adopted by Fear, and the two make quite a couple! Despite the fact that Velvet cannot fly, it loves to ride on Fear's back while he's hunting. Velvet's an optimistic hatchling, and can't grasp the fact that he cannot grow up.
