Grave Dragons are not named for their connections to death or burial, but for the grave expression on their faces. This strange expression is used as a defense mechanism that causes fits of panic and terror in potential predators. Since they only eat ash and charcoal, they do not hunt. Grave Dragons are powerful fire-breathers and have been known to burn down forests and villages alike to make meals. It is believed that the markings on each Grave Dragon’s wings are the faces of those who have lost their lives in fires started by that dragon.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Quiet, reserved, and completely devoid of emotion, Zepar appears to share little connection to those he considers his group. He has a regal bearing to him, mostly because he fears nothing. Zepar could be facing any number of horrors, and his grave, foreboding expression will not waver. He seems to be a very logic-driven dragon. He sees the world through an array of ashy greys, blacks, and whites. Morals do not seem to appeal to him. Zepar has been noted for his terrifyingly powerful flame. Anything exposed to it will typically turn to ash within a few moments, ash that he will then feed on. Even the most vicious members of his group consider him the scariest among them, probably because he doesn't have to try. Zepar does not have any personal convictions. Everything he does he does out of sound logic and the laws of survival. The only reason he travels in a group is because he is better defended within it. Plus, though he won't admit it, he is attracted to the group's leader, Samigina.
