Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It skitters around in the shadows, seemingly repelled by light.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This hatchling is a renowned painter. Art collectors (dragons and humans alike) literally spend mountains of gold when the opportunity arises to acquire one of her paintings. She is famous for her series of "human during a thunderstorm" paintings, her trademark being that every human is depicted with red eyes. The hatchling claims that human eyes become red when a flash goes off during the painting session, but this surely is one of the eccentricities art geniuses so often display.
