Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A friend to all, Brea is just an overall kind dragon. She has, however, taken a liking to the pygmy kind, often going outside of the castle territory and searching for the tiny dragons. Some of the older dragons do not understand why she does this, but have never spoken out about it. Partly because it doesn't cause harm to them, but mostly because by doing so they would be revealing her secret. By leaving the grounds Brea breaks one of the most enforced rules the Castle Master has set down, and the punishment for such could leave the docile Dorsal maimed and crippled. All conversation on the subject hushes when the tyrannical ruler or her Seragamma draw near, and as of yet the two know nothing of what the purple Dorsal does.
