Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Amphitritte was supposed to be Posydon's Son's mate since she was born, despite the fact that he is her father. This is also the reason for her name, slightly changed to differ from the Greek God Poseidon's consort. However, when her mother announced her future plan, Amphitritte rebelled against it. She had always found Posydon's Son's arrogance repulsive and had no intention of becoming his mate. When her objections weren't heard, she pleaded Sulphura, the Magi dragon, to help her. She felt for Amphitritte and used her magical skills to freeze her in time. That way, she could never become Posydon's Son's mate as she'll be forever young.
