Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When Sooty Boots was a hatchling, he was a wild hatchling. He escaped from his mother on adventure only to have half of him crushed by a boulder. He stayed there for two days when finally a purple dragon found him. To end his pain, she struck him with a shard of rock in the head. She then sealed him in a frozen hole. However, the next day, a cat that goes by the name of Catty found poor little Sooty encased in his prison, alive and sitting up!

Catty took the hatchling home and tried to nourish Sooty back to full health without the help of any of her white dragons. She failed, but kept Sooty anyways.

Today, Sooty is still crippled. He still manages to have fun and act like a normal dragon.
