Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Stutfohlen is exactly the kind of tyrant one would expect a young Hellhorse mare to be. She has temper tantrums where her flames flare up and she stomps her hooves and screams at the top of her lungs just to get her will. Luckily her hatchling sitters are mostly old veterans and from very flame-resistant breeds themselves, so the usual reaction of an adult Hellfire or Magma is to start looking at her, let THEIR flames flare up and project into her head very insistently "And I want a well-behaved hatchling." This usually shuts her up pretty quickly.
