Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. This hatchling is hard to see, but in the sunlight it displays brilliant colors.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Secret, a small hatchling with mysteriously stunted growth, is the strangest amphiptere, with golden claws hidden amongst the feathers of her wings. Using these odd claws, she climbs to the tops of trees or cliffs and launches off. She can stay airborne for up to ten hours with assistance if she finds a high enough take-off spot. Recognised as an "adult" dragon, her opinions are regarded with as much sincerity as any other. It is widely accepted by resident White Dragons that whatever caused her claw growth also stopped her maturity.
