Cassare Dragons are known for their magic-deadening abilities. Though not a conscious ability, a large field surrounds the dragon through which magic is passively nullified. This field is strongest near the dragon itself, and falls off with distance. The absence of magic often makes other creatures avoid them, though some will have the opposite reaction and seek refuge instead. It has also caused them to be hunted, as though the field is severely weakened once dead, their bones and scales retain some of the effect. Possessing such an item is considered a necessity by those who expect to face hostile magic.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Above all else, Wardbreaker is a dragon who knows how to say one thing and mean another. She speaks smoothly and sweetly, with a keen ear for what others will hear in her words compared to what they mean. Her enemies don't realize she's unseated and destroyed them until they stand blinking in the ruins of their lives, sure that she had been their friend until a moment before.

She is one of Flameflow's closest advisors, though that isn't public knowledge. She is one of his chosen council, those whose wits or power prove them worthy allies to ensure the continuing rule of the Weyr of Flame over the continent. Her ability to negate magic makes her a key part of Flameflow's private security forces, allowing her to protect him from any threat to his life or rule. She plays demure to his visions, his mad thirst for control of every being on the continent, but Wardbreaker is no true believer. She is merely a mate and a mother who knows to keep her enemies nearly as dear as her true heart.
