Swallowtail Dragons are graceful and quick flyers, much like their namesake bird. They are capable of precise aerial acrobatics, and can reach very high altitudes. Because of this, humans observing these dragons are often astonished at how large they are when confronted up close. A Swallowtail’s diet consists of insects and small mammals plentiful in temperate forests. These dragons are also made remarkable by their paper-thin wing membranes, which allow light to pass through, creating an astonishing effect on starry nights.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Wasima Drak is a very kind dragon that was made fun of by the dragons she was raised with. Charlie, Maxwell, and Walda bullied her because of her two tails. However, they stopped as soon as they all matured. Being one of the oldest dragons, she was in charge of collecting eggs when she stumbled upon a peculiar egg that was cold and smelled bad. She took it with her to raise it when Maxwell decided the egg shouldn't belong in the group. Wasima didn't listen, and raised it far away from the group. Even after it hatched, she still cared for it. When the hatchling matured and Wasima was going to name it, the hatchling escaped from the small area it was being raised in and entered the cave, where all of the dragons were sleeping. By the time Wasima made it back to the cave, Maxwell was about to pounce on the male Vampire when Wasima defended him from Maxwell. She has a scar on her right tail from her bravery, and now Waverly Drak is still alive, biting eggs with Wasima's permission.
