Horse Dragons have equine-shaped bodies and hooves instead of claws, which allow them to be fast runners. They specialize in running takeoffs, which are quicker than taking off from a stand-still. Horse dragons are able to stalk their prey from the ground then quickly execute an aerial attack for the kill.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Xajiira is very much a mama's boy in spite of Nilbastevell's rough treatment of him. He was supposed to have been a hellhorse, a valuable hybrid of Horse Dragon and Hellfire Wyvern, but his mother has put his less menacing appearance and more sedate temperament to good use. In his youth he followed her nearly everywhere she would allow, and now that he is grown, her word is still law to him.

Xajiira mingles with the dragons that live in the foothills of Mt. Aleser, acting as a go between for the fierce wyverns below the mountain and the wild packs of dragons above. He is a trader, trickster and slaver chief all at once, and will readily lead the well-meaning fellows he can get to haul goods for him to a short, hard life in the mines.
