Sophrosyne Dragons are a rare sight, typically making themselves known only to protect and heal the vulnerable. A visit from one serves as a reminder that kindness prevails, and that there’s always hope for positive change. While it is known that they possess the power to reverse botched spells, some claim they can even cure methodically-cast curses. This has never been formally documented, but these dragons have been seen arriving in the aftermath of violence, and the scars of tragedy seem to heal faster in their wake. The feathers of a Sophrosyne have thus become a symbol of perseverance and light in the face of darkness.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Angela Ziegler, better known as Mercy to those dragons that she helps, is an utterly peerless healer and helper of those dragons that are less fortunate than her. She's said to have dedicated her life to finding ways to help others and stop the infighting among dragon breeds, believing that Valkemare-wide peace is much better than any fighting for things such as territory or food.

She spends most of her time helping the hurt dragons who have managed to seek her out, and even grant some humans and Keepers with her presence, bringing them good luck and "curing" curses of the undead that her kind is known to be able to cure.

Even so, sometimes her peace tactics can lead to violence, as she tries to protect innocent dragons from those that would dare to harm her—it's unknown whether she really has killed other dragons or not in order to protect innocents. It's better to be safe than sorry, in any case.
