Skywing Dragons spend most of their lives flying in the air. They hunt from the air, diving at prey from above, and land only to rest. They are some of the fastest fliers, capable of extremely high speeds. The webbing at the end of the tail acts as a rudder, allowing them to easily change direction during flight.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Xao is a very tame dragon in comparison to others her scroll-keeper has found. She enjoys flying just above the water, close enough to cause ripples but not too close where she gets wet. However, she does like to dive often, but when she does, she prefers to fly extremely high before dipping her nose downwards and falling closer and closer to the waves below her. It is quite a spectacle, one that her scroll-keeper has seen many times first hand despite Xao's efforts to fly far enough away so other dragons do not disturb her. Her dives are so incredible, the scroll-keeper has even flown several friends from a nearby village on the back of another dragon to show them her beautiful flights, dives and swims. Xao has an incredibly close bond with her scroll-keeper, which is no surprise considering he saved her as an egg after she was abandoned and she was loved, despite her messier lineage. She was also the scroll-keepers very first dragon, which makes her very special to them.
