Blacktip Dragons are a small, shore-dwelling breed that tend to nest on sheer ocean side cliffs. They live in groups under a dominant female, who prevents her subordinates from breeding. During the mating season, a group of Blacktips can be very noisy and smelly indeed; males produce a distinctive musky odor and loud, low-pitched honking noises in an attempt to woo the alpha female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

One may think that, because the alpha female Kovani prevents her from breeding and controls the lives of every dragon in their little group, Lari would be a pretty bitter dragoness. That isn't really the case, however, as the young Blacktip has other things on her mind. Recalling a day in her hatchlinghood when the rain was coming down in sheets yet the sun still shone, her eyes will grow wide as she describes the sheer beauty of the rainbow she saw. Now she's an expert rainbow hunter, perching diligently on the cliff face and keeping her eyes peeled for even the most fleeting of colorful arches. Her thoughts will wander, and she'll dream about what lies at the end of the rainbows that she so carefully observes day after day...

Not to mention the fact that she's had her fair share of affairs outside of group rules before. It turns out that convincing the others that she's completely off her nut is an effective strategy for reducing suspicion. What Kovani doesn't know won't hurt her.
