Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Kahulani had appeared mysteriously in the cave where the child of dragons lives. There had never been a Guardian dragon before Kahulani, and none known to have been lurking around. The egg was nurtured and raised nonetheless, and thus Kahulani was born into the ever growing family of dragons and the human child. It seemed to be in her nature to protect; growing up with the other hatchlings she would always get in front of an attack for anyone who was being bullied. The high ranking dragons saw potential in this and raised her to be one of the protectors. Kahulani grew up to be a successful member of the protectors of the cave as the defense leader. Kahulani enjoys her role in the cave and loves all her cavemates. Everyone adores her because of how kind and humble she is to everyone. In combat, she uses her powerful wings and shield to thwart any assailant's attacks in a graceful style that uses defense to attack, finding her opponent's weakness and using it against them effectively.
