Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Corny loves stories—if he already knows how they will end. Innovation frightens him as he is too worried that one of the beloved protagonists may die or the villain might succeed. A good story in Corny's opinion should have: true love, mighty male heroes, graceful dragonesses in distress, terrifying yet stupid human villains, and maybe a clever, trustworthy hatchling at the hero's side.
