Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Sick Gold was, well, sick. Mere moments before hatching, he got really sick. His shell was softer than normal, and the egg hadn't moved. But to hatch, the owner had to send it back out to be viewed. So he hatched. He hatched sick, and people thought he would die. He had to be saved, so he was frozen. For some reason though, he never seems to eat much and doesn't move. This may be as it was sick when he was frozen, and the effects passed on.
