Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Axel is a dreamer, warrior, and loving dragon. He loves to guard the dragons that go to the abandoned pile to get eggs. When eggs hatch, he takes the smallest hatchling under his wing, quite literally. He teaches them his skills, taking them out at night to hunt. The hatchlings respect him and often fight over who he likes more. While he says he loves all equally, he knows that he does show favoritism to the first hatchling he took under his wing, a small Magi named Taylor Samson. While young Taylor was not a good hunter, Axel was able to teach him a few tricks. Their time together remains one of his favorite memories. Since then, Axel and Taylor have ventured into the woods, trying to see who can preform the best tricks. They have never decided who is the best. Often other dragons have tried to follow them. Although the displays of magic are not easy to hide, no one has ever succeeded. Axel secretly hopes a cunning female will find them and he will be able to win her heart.
