It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Blatta Vis had originally chosen her name because she thought it meant 'purple', however she has recently been assured that she chose wrong and that her name actually means 'cockroach'. Nevertheless, Blatta remains the matriarch, the Great Mother, of her family, which is located in the Aemelie system of caves and caverns. <br/>As a matriarchal family, the naming ceremonies for each hatchling are conducted by Blatta Vis as the hatchlings mature into adults. Attempts are made to give all hatchlings a name with the same first initial of the father and the same last name of the mother.<br/>Blatta divides spending her time with the eggs and young hatchlings (to get a feel for what their names shall be), and with her mate and his stash of collectibles.
