Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Princess Buttercup is the eldest of all the dragons in her clan, and therefore is one of the more respected amongst them. She is second in command to Tyrael and is their war general of sorts. She is quite hostile and tends to pick fights very frequently, greatly preferring the offensive stance to the defensive. She is certainly the fiercest fighter in her clan, and certainly feared throughout the entire land. Though she is primarily disliked, she is extremely loyal to those she does care about, Tyrael in particular. She is stoic to anyone except Tyrael and is quite short tempered, but she does fight fairly and is never cruel. Despite being a mother many times over, she seems to lack a maternal instinct and prefers to let others care for her eggs instead.
