Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

One day, this little hatchling became sick. Her owner looked for a way to cure her, but there were none. As a last resort, she performed some powerful magic that would freeze the hatchling, preventing it from ever growing up. For a time, the little hatchling didn't even know if she was a boy or a girl. The dracling eventually grew wings, and her gender was revealed as well.
