Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Behold, seeker of the dragon lore, Vebevore of the Black Dragons. She is only a half-breed as some miscoloured scales on her body suggest. The alchemist who keeps her as a pet suspects that this is the reason why she never grew up into an adult dragon and was abandoned as an egg in the first place. She is completely nocturnal in her habits and tends to stare into space for long hours every night, from the highest point of her owner's tower. Although she bears no other resemblance to that breed, the alchemist suspects that one parent might have been a Nebula Dragon.
