Hellfire Wyverns are so named for their foul tempers and fiery visages. Their social structure places all females above all males, due to superior physical characteristics and violent dispositions. Forced subservience of the males causes them to become vicious, petty, antisocial, and passive-aggressive compared to the aggressive and social females. However, orphaned hatchlings raised by foster parents of another species can develop surprisingly even tempers and mellow dispositions, proving that their defining unpleasant nature is, in fact, a learned behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Flame is a very violent and brutal dragon. She holds a deep hatred for others that not even she can explain. In Luna Bell's herd, she often convinced her gentler sister, Glow, to take part in her cruel "jokes" to torment others. But they weren't jokes at all to her. Their pranks were a means to satisfy her desire for dragon blood. One night, they took things too far and caused the death of another dragon. This triggered a spark in Flame's heart, she had found what she was meant to do in life. Killing was her calling. But the rest of the herd didn't feel this way. They were terrified of the Hellfire. They banished her from the herd. Flame went and joined Shadow Puppet's herd to pursue what she felt was her true vocation. To destroy Luna Bell's herd. She had never been so sure of something before.
