Magi Dragons are, as their name suggests, primarily magic users. They rarely use physical forms of attack. They eat anything they can kill, which is almost everything. They won’t kill unprovoked except when hunting, although they may kill humans if in danger. Their strong magic makes them one of the most feared breeds of dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

While she usually practices magic with her sister Amber, Volaire has taken on a pet project.  She often works, sometimes with Amber, to find a way to grant Matilda the ability to fly, as she is a shallow water dragon but loves the open air.  Volaire thinks she is close to a breakthrough to helping Matilda and until then has used her magic when with Matilda to levitate her, giving her the feeling of flying; however, she tires out quickly from this and will go out hunting, return home, and continue work on her magic for Matilda's sake.  The dragons that do know of Volaire's project consider her very sweet and thoughtful and has become well liked for this new side of her that not everyone knows about.
