Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This child priest lives in the branches of Yggdrasil, worshipping the mightiest dragons of the Abyssal Wake. It thinks them gods, and so it prays to them and does their bidding. Although the Sinomorphs and Guardians of Nature are mostly benevolent beings, Styx the Vile uses the poor hatchling to carry out her dirty work. It doesn't know that it is being taken advantage of, for it believes that disobeying the gods would be sin. Because of this undying devotion, however, he has helped kill many a dragon through poison or accidents. Styx chose it for these tasks because it has been cursed.

Long ago, a contemptuous sorcerer stumbled upon the Abyssal Wake where these dragons live. Outraged that the owner Looti wouldn't give him a place to stay the night, he cast a Dark spell on a batch of Black Dragon eggs. These dragons hatched just fine, but to their dismay, they weren't able to reach adulthood. They now spend their lives helping out other dragons with their various activities.
