Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Jonas Formidonis doesn't only guard the most vulnerable dragons in Rocky Hollow.  He does that, certainly: he drives away hungry predators looking for eggs and hatchlings, and he scoops up the humans who try to steal eggs, then drops them from a terrifying-but-not-fatal height into the sea.  He's been doing this job for his entire adult life, and as one of the oldest dragons of Rocky Hollow, he's quite good at it. However, it's not the part of his job he's proudest of.

No, that job, the truly sacred trust, came to him only recently.  The Rocky Hollow keeper spoke to him one day and explained that there would be Seekers soon, looking for a clue.  Jonas, as the Guardian, had been chosen to guard the clue until the Seekers came, not revealing it until that day.

Now that day has come. To each Seeker who comes for the clue, Jonas gives an intense stare, judging the Seeker's worth and cleverness. Then, the whisper in the Seeker's mind is cryptic: "ROT13. That is the clue. Try ROT13."
