Blacktip Dragons are a small, shore-dwelling breed that tend to nest on sheer ocean side cliffs. They live in groups under a dominant female, who prevents her subordinates from breeding. During the mating season, a group of Blacktips can be very noisy and smelly indeed; males produce a distinctive musky odor and loud, low-pitched honking noises in an attempt to woo the alpha female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Easily over-awed and not overly smart, Skwuk is the oldest and more dominant male Blacktip on the scroll. He spends most of his time harassing hapless creatures for food, whether it be crabs or a fish stuck in a tide pool during low tide, or another dragon unlucky enough to get caught with food they weren't sharing with him. He's made himself a serious enough nuisance to earn the moniker "the Winged Rat" from the other dragons! He was quite impressed and delighted when Hozonk was adopted and reached maturity, and ever since he's made himself twice the nuisance for her sake! As Kraah's rival for Hozonk's affection, Skwuk will often use his superior weight and status to steal credit for Kraah's ideas. He's named for one of the sounds he most often makes.
