As the nocturnal relative to Sunbeam Drakes, Moonglow Drakes are a secretive breed most active under the light of the moons and stars. They are wary of others, but are known to have incredible loyalty should their trust be won. Catching sight of Moonglow Drakes as they dance amid the moonlight is seen as a favorable omen by those they live near, and tamed individuals are common. They are slightly smaller than their cousins, averaging around the size of a cat.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Midnight's Hidden Glory is a shy, quiet Night Glory dragon. His main friend is Rufus Sunset Illumina, for, to his despair, all of his family have hatched as Day Glories and therefore have little contact with this nocturnal creature. Not that he has a big family, for Midnight is badly inbred. As a result, he is quite weak and frail, to the extent that he sometimes needs help to hunt successfully; so there was much disapproval when Midnight and his Day Glory mate, The Glory Of The Sun, produced an egg together. That egg grew up to be Dr Ernest Drake, who, although not as weak as his father, still suffers from his inbreeding. This has made the Glory Drakes total outcasts of the cave, maligned for inflicting the horror of inbreeding on their son—despite the fact that they themselves were not related, and it is only Midnight's side of the family which is corrupted. Midnight, however, cares very little. Rufus Sunset is still and will always be his friend.
