When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Usmuu is the firstborn child of Mifibu the Water Dragon and Ikanima the Golden Wyvern, laid a year after her parents first met on Valentine's Day. One could call her, ironically, a romantic. Usmuu is much less bitter than her father about visitors. She enjoys the Magi Dragon couple who visit the lake shore; who tell her of events on land and what exciting adventures they took part in. She's fond of the small human who brings her gifts of goods from far away lands. One day, Usmuu hopes to convince one of the larger dragons who live nearby to fly her to the sea so that she may travel the world and experience all the things she could never find in her land-trapped home.
