Feisty and energetic, Whiptail Dragons pride themselves on their speed and agility. It is not unusual to see several whiptails racing each other. Though fragile, they can easily evade attacks with their superior speed, and often use their long tails as a weapon, giving rise to their name.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Racing Claw is the only one of the clan's Whiptail's that are not long distance messengers. Instead of flying about the countryside, he control's a large cave on top of a spire so steep that no human can enter. That cave is one of the many messenger towers that dot over the countryside. These caves allow places where messenger dragons can rest, and pass the message word for word to another of the messengers, who will take the next leg of the journey. Known as the Whiptail Express, (though the chain of caves does allow other species of dragon messengers), Racing Claw and his Express Cave have remained as the best of all of the Express Caves that dot the land, much to the pride of Racing Claw and the clan, and to the disappointment of many other Express Caves.
