Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Uknog is a purple Dorsal hatchling who never seems to age. He is a clever little dragon and uses his cuteness to his advantage. Uknog's main pastime is approaching kind-hearted adult dragons and performing endearing tricks—flipping, standing on one foot, or simply flapping his dorsal fin, just to name a few. These dragons are usually charmed by Uknog's antics and give him delectable bits of food and small gems. This lifestyle earned Uknog his title, "The Performer", as well as a rather large treasure hoard for a mere hatchling.
