Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A thief stole Alloros egg when he was born and, believing it to be a rare treasure, sold it to a rich foreign merchant for a hefty sum.

But on the way home he hit a swell and capsized, sending his cargo and crew into the cold sea. The wreckage of their ship, Alloro's egg included, washed up on an isle, along with the merchant's 100 slaves. A distinct culture developed among the slaves, who revered the egg as holy treasure. When he hatched, they thought him a god.

Alloro became the subject of a religion, beloved by his "followers." He had no reason to believe he was not divine, as there were no other dragons on this isle. He was shocked when a dragon, weary from travel, descended upon his homeland. The stranger told him tales of thousands like him, and that they are not gods, just dragons. Curious, Alloro traveled to the Northern Territories and discovered the stranger's words were true.

It was a bittersweet notion. Everything he knew was being proved farce, but was no longer alone.
