When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Swriwl is one of the few dragons to have survived the area in which she grew up. It has lacked the resources for proper dragon raising for years, though at one time it was bountiful. Luckily for her, the place had a large lake in which she now lives. Having only recently matured, she often takes the advice of the adult dragons around her lake, taking their advice constantly. She enjoys swimming down to the lake bottom, where kelp is plentiful, and taking naps. She's not quite so adventurous, and prefers to listen to the stories. In reality, she's a little lazy, and has no wish to take on the burden of bearing kids, having sworn when she first matured, that any egg she produced would go to a mother that could care for it.
