Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s brightly colored and chirps quite often.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Out of all the hatchlings in Shield Tail and Dark Drakon's herd, Opal Eye is possibly the gentlest of all. Hating bloodshed and violence, she greatly fears dragon slayers, knowing their presence on the island will eventually lead to fighting. However, she is still the daughter of Crimson Firedrake and Ambrosia Scales, and when pushed too far, she will show the steel beneath the velvet.
