Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Atramentous Aleron has, for many years now, enjoyed hiding under the desks of monks working on various manuscripts.  Ethereal Dawn granted him permission to go from the clan and live with the monks, provided he check in every few years. It is said that long ago, an unknown person cast a spell upon him, so he could forever remain with the monks, in the monastery he loved.  The monks originally graced him with the name Aleron, meaning winged one.  However, as a playful hatchling, he has caused several spills of the black ink used on the snowy, white parchments by the monks.  After one such major spill, the monks found Aleron covered with ink that was even darker than his own black scales.  That incident and others like it lead to Atramentous, to describe him as dark and inky.  As a result of such spills, he now has a permanent ink mark on his left wing.
